Biography:
I have always loved good food, and began learning to cook at the age of 7. As a young adult I studied hotel management, catering and tourism, and it was while working in these industries in the 1970's that I discovered the benefits of macrobiotics and yoga. First yoga took over and I studied and taught in the Sivananda Yoga organisation for some years. In the early 80's I became the chef/proprietor of Acorn Natural Food Café, a restaurant and wholesale food manufacturer at Maldon in Essex, regularly teaching cooking classes. In the late 80's my interest moved to macrobiotics, and I became a leading chef at the East West Restaurant, London's renowned macrobiotic eatery.
This led me to macrobiotic studies under Michio & Aveline Kushi, Bill Tara, Denny Waxman, Rik Vermuyten, Montse Bradford, Neil Gulliver and others, and my completion of Kushi Institute levels I – 3. I then became a part-time macrobiotic cooking teacher at the Community Health Foundation, and later at The Concord Institute.
In parallel I set up and currently run VegiVentures Holidays, providing good local organic food on holidays in the UK, Turkey and Latin America. These short-breaks and journeys provide the opportunity to travel and learn in good company, without having to worry about your diet.
I love to teach macrobiotic cooking and welcome individuals and small groups to my cottage in Norfolk. Please contact me for details of private classes that can be tailored to your special needs. And I am available as a macrobiotic caterer for large and small events, anywhere.
I am also the volunteer co-ordinator for the bi-annual Macrobiotic Summer Gathering, a warm easy-going community led event for individuals and families, with a great children's programme, macrobiotic lectures, cooking classes and superb food.
